The Typical Office Workstation Design

This is where the term "cube" got its name. These stations are available in a multitude of sizes but 8x8's and 6x6's are the most popular. Although 6x8's are gaining in popularity.

These stations usually have one or two shelves or enclosed overhead units (as shown in the right hand image), with task lights mounted underneath. A tackable board is sometimes added belw the overhead unit.

The worksurface (desk top) configuration usually has a computer corner worksurface, with two straight worksurfaces on either side. The depth of the worksurface is either 24" or 30". Because of todays flat screen monitors 24" deep worksurfaces are mainly used.

The BBF(box/box/file) pedestal. This is a three drawer filing cabinet with two 6" drawers- for supplies, staplers, hair brushes etc., and one 12" drawer for filing. The 12" file drawers can be configured for letter or legal documents.

And the FF (file/file) pedestal. This has two file drawers.

A 2 drawer lateral file is sometimes used when filing needs are greater.
